How We Picked
We started with locks whose makers speak directly to rental hosts, then checked three things on the official product pages and on Airbnb's Help Center:
- Guest codes. Can you give each guest a unique code that only works during the stay, and cancel it afterward?
- Remote control. Can you see lock status and change codes from your phone when you are hours away?
- Connections. Does the lock work with Airbnb's own smart lock feature, or with property management software, according to the maker or the integration partner?
We did not include prices, because they change often and vary by retailer and finish. Integrations are listed only where the lock maker, Airbnb or the software company says so. If a lock you like is not here, that does not mean it is a bad lock; we simply could not confirm enough about it for rentals.
1. Schlage Encode Plus Smart WiFi Deadbolt
The Encode Plus has a built-in keypad and built-in Wi-Fi, so it does not need a separate bridge. Schlage's product page says it supports Apple Home Keys, is Matter certified, works with Thread and "Works with Airbnb." Airbnb's Help Center lists the Encode Plus, the Encode Smart WiFi Deadbolt and the Encode Smart WiFi Lever as compatible Schlage models.
Good to know: You manage it through the Schlage Home app, where you can create unique codes and see lock status.
Consider if: you want a keypad deadbolt that connects to Airbnb directly, with no hub to install.
2. Yale Assure Lock 2 (Wi-Fi Versions)
Yale sells the Assure Lock 2 in several versions (keypad, touchscreen, Touch with fingerprint, and Plus), and its Airbnb page offers bundles labeled "For Vacation Rental Hosts" that pair each lock with a Connect Wi-Fi bridge. Yale says codes are generated automatically for Airbnb guests and set to expire at checkout.
Good to know: Yale states that the Airbnb integration only works for locks operating in the US and Canada, and that its Airbnb bundles ship only within the US.
Consider if: you want a choice of styles and keypad types from one brand that Airbnb supports.
3. August Wi-Fi Smart Lock + Keypad
The August Wi-Fi Smart Lock fits on the inside of your existing deadbolt, so the outside of the door and your current keys stay the same. The bundle includes a Yale Smart Keypad, which August says stores up to 250 codes. DoorSense tells you whether the door is actually closed, and Auto-Lock can relock it behind a guest.
Good to know: Airbnb only supports August locks when they have a keypad accessory, so buy the keypad bundle, not the lock alone.
Consider if: you want to keep your existing deadbolt hardware, or you rent a condo where replacing the exterior lock is not allowed.
4. Igloohome Deadbolt Go and Retrofit Lock
igloohome's pitch to rental hosts is offline access. Its algoPIN technology generates time-limited PINs that work even when the property has weak or no Wi-Fi, which matters for rural cabins and lake houses. The company lists the Deadbolt Go, Deadbolt 2S, Retrofit Lock, Cellular Deadbolt and Keybox 3 among its products.
Good to know: igloohome says its locks work with Airbnb, Hostaway, Smoobu, Avantio, Guesty and RentalReady, with guest PINs generated for each booking and expiring at checkout.
Consider if: your internet is unreliable, or you want a keybox option for a door you cannot change.
5. Lockly Secure Pro and Vision Elite
Lockly's rental page names the Secure Pro and the Vision Elite, a lock with a built-in video camera and intercom. Its Offline Access Codes let you create single-use or limited-use codes that work when the lock is not connected to the network. Lockly says you get three free Offline Access Codes per month, with more through its LocklyOS subscription.
Good to know: The free Lockly Home app manages locks at up to three properties, per Lockly's rental page (September 2026).
Consider if: you want to see and talk to arriving guests at the door.
6. Ultraloq U-Bolt Pro WiFi
U-tec's U-Bolt Pro WiFi combines a keypad, a fingerprint reader and built-in Wi-Fi, and keeps a mechanical key override. The spec sheet lists 50 codes and 100 fingerprints. U-tec lists "Airbnb" as a use case, but we did not find a direct Airbnb or rental software integration on its product page, so plan to manage guest codes in the U home app yourself.
Good to know: U-tec gives battery life for the WiFi version as 3 to 6 months, shorter than its non-Wi-Fi models.
Consider if: you manage one or two homes yourself and are comfortable setting codes by hand.
7. Yale Approach Lock with Keypad
The Approach is Yale's retrofit option: like August, it attaches to your existing deadbolt, and it is sold for rental hosts with a Connect Wi-Fi bridge and either a keypad or a Keypad Touch. Airbnb lists the Approach Lock with Wi-Fi as compatible when a keypad is added.
Consider if: you like Yale's Airbnb setup but cannot replace the exterior deadbolt.
8. RemoteLock (Access Platform)
RemoteLock is not a lock. It is software that sits between your locks and your booking tools. Its website says it connects locks from brands including Schlage, Kwikset and Yale with software such as Guesty, Airbnb, Track, Streamline Vacation Rental Software and Turno.
Consider if: you run several homes with different lock brands, or you need cleaners and vendors to get their own scheduled codes.
Setting up a Smart Lock for Guests
A few habits prevent most lockout calls:
- Keep a backup way in. Airbnb asks hosts who connect a lock to add a backup entry method, shared only if the lock fails. A keyed cylinder or a keybox with a spare works.
- Give every person their own code. Guests, cleaners, co-hosts and repair vendors should each have a separate code so the activity log tells you who came and went.
- Change batteries on a schedule. Do not wait for the low battery warning, especially at a ski home or lake house that sits empty between bookings.
- Write clear arrival steps. Add a photo of the door, the lock and where to park. Put it in your check-in instructions and your guest-ready checklist.
- Test after every turnover. Whoever cleans should confirm the door locks and the keypad lights up before leaving.
